Not Fooled By Libertarians

A couple weeks ago, I heard an interesting NPR story on libertarians. An interesting recurring theme was how the Libertarians would win over anti-war young people: those of us who supported Obama because of Iraq and were disappointed by his intervention in Syria.

Yes, it will.  Those who are upper-middle class members, have parents to get them through college, and will probably have upper-middle class jobs as adults.  The people who benefit from inequality

But those of us who care about jobs, the environment, gun control, voting rights and inequality will not be fooled.  Libertarians are Republicans with a few sane ideas.

They aren’t totally unhypocritical like they portray themselves as.  Rand Paul may talk about the evils of government, but none of that matters when it comes down to women’s health.

Libertarians aren’t supportive of issues young people such as myself believe in, like protecting the environment.  They want to cut taxes for the rich and continue corporate welfare, allowing inequality to grow exponentially as it is doing now.

Guns are more important than safety.  An important libertarian ideal.

And leaving women out of this “freedom from government” thing is just not cool.

While we should be considering legalizing marijuana and getting rid of drones, there are liberals sounding the alarm on these issues as well.  Congressional Democrats should embrace the support of libertarians if they agree on certain issues.

But VOTING for a Libertarian?  That’s just disgusting.

Less Abortion; Less Marijuana; Less Government

A guest post by Ryan

I am really angry at the government.  Really really angry at the government.

Obama raised my taxes.  I know because my pastor told me.  Obama also hates abortion.  My pastor told me that, too.  This is a loosing combination because the Bible says:

Then Peter and the [other] apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”

If the Bible says it.  I believe it.  That settles it.

Government is always wrong.  They should always be doing less.  This is because they are not doing enough about moral issues like abortion, homosexuality, and marijuana.

Who cares about banks when the unborn are at stake?  Who cares about minimum wages or health insurance when babies could die?

I know I don’t because my pastor doesn’t either.

George Zimmerman is a GOOD man

A Guest Post by Ryan

George Zimmerman is a good man.  I know because he helped a family whose car was on fire.

The liberals should not be talking about justice for Trayvon Martin.  Instead, they should be talking about justice for unborn babies.  Killing them should be infanticide.  But instead it’s legal. 😦

And besides, when something bad happens, it’s because God wanted it to.  God clearly wanted Martin to die. He also clearly wanted Zimmerman to be set free.  And help the family in the car! Or else it wouldn’t have happened.

George Zimmerman helping an innocent family is a great example of how God’s love is in our lives. 🙂 😉

Save the Unborn Now

A Guest Post by Ryan

The House passed a great pro-life bill that would save lots and lots of unborn children in this country by banning abortion after twenty weeks. After the amazing bill in Texas that will surely save thousands of babies, it is disappointing that the godless senators have not yet taken it up.

I pray every day for God to end abortion and save the unborn.  It is the second thing I pray each day, after praying for my family and before praying for gays, atheists, Jewish people, and liberals.

This was you once-save the babies!

I believe that God loves every unborn child.   He tells us in the Bible that no child should be killed in the womb.

Life begins at conception because that is when the child starts needing to eat.    He gets the food from his mother.  The child depends on the mother. I know that women are defenseless; but so are unborn children.  The unborn child’s life is more important than his mother’s wants.

God shows us that He is the giver of life and that life has sanctity.  That means it is wrong to kill anything-ever.

Especially if the government does it.  The Bible says to obey Him, not the government.  They want to take our guns so they can kill us; we have to use our guns to fight back.

I am especially disappointed that the government stands back while innocent babies are being slaughtered.   “Liberal Christians” aren’t true Christians.  They  worship the Devil and Satan, not God and his Son, Jesus Christ.  They don’t respect the sanctity of life because they’re pro-abortion.  They will all go to Hell.  Obama, Reid, and Pelosi; but especially Reid for not introducing it in the Senate.  😉 🙂

Random Reflections on HB2

So I had to write a post on what happened tonight but between all the commotion on Twitter and otherwise, all I have are random thoughts for both the TX Legislature and you, dear reader:

  1.  I’ve not found it on Youtube yet, but Wendy Davis’s floor speech was absolutely amazing
  2. The guy who’s talking about all the women in his life is driving me crazy.
  3. What the Hell is this procedural thing w/ calling a new legislative day?
  4. Okay; you’ve just assaulted women’s rights.  Why are you complementing your Secretary’s prayer.  It’s just…random.
  5. GOP, stop talking about people coming together no matter what color shirt they’re waiting.  Because the ones in orange are secretly planning retaliation and those in blue are dreaming about overturning Roe.
  6. It sucks to be a woman, but at least I got RTed.
  7. Somebody needs to start a Wendy Davis for TX governor super pac, complete with a program to order free “Ready for Wendy” bumperstickers.
  8. Just another assault on civil liberties: the State Police arrest 20 at least.  And despite all their “freedom” talking points, the tea party agrees w/ them,

Great.    Did I mention that there are still two more legislative bodies I have yet write angry blog posts on?

Why don’t y’all turn y’all’s attention down to Austin, Texas, please?

The War on Women in waging down in Texas.  First we had Jodie Laubenberg talking crappy “science” about rape kits.  Then, we had Wendy Davis’s epic filibuster of Senate Bill 5, a bill aimed at preventing a woman’s reproductive rights.  Just like in the rest of this country, there are a lot more people who oppose this legislation than   support it.  Not that the Republicans care.

Then Rick Perry came in and called another special session, which shows us that the will of the people really doesn’t matter to Texas Republicans.  With that came another round of people waiting to testify, almost is vain because you can bet those Republicans won’t give a damn, as they didn’t to this woman.

I have so many issues with this I don’t know where to start.  Indeed, I could go on for a whole  post about how if Texas were a true democracy, SB5 would have failed while it was still a bill in the House.

But I’ll take another, equally pressing issue:  First look at a screenshot from that video:

Capture-Arrest

Doesn’t that image resemble this one?

Or this one?

That second picture I showed you is from the Civil Rights movement, where one of the goals was to “fill up the jails” in order to lead to the repeal of Jim Crow laws.   In the Jim Crow Era, protestors were treated to large gusts of water, tear gas, clubs, and yes, arrest for peacefully protesting.

The first and last picture were not taken in the Jim Crow era.  As a matter of fact, both of them were taken in the Texas Legislature building within the last month.   This last picture is of a woman being arrested while everybody in the gallery of the Texas Legislature was cheering for Wendy Davis’s amazing filibuster.

Both of these women were peaceful protesters.  The woman in the orange shirt is in her seventies.  And yet they were arrested.  Why? For using their constitutional rights: freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

The era of police using violence to silence peaceful protests is far from gone.   Every week, tens of Moral Monday protestors are arrested in North Carolina.  In a way, everywhere in America is Austin, Texas.    Everywhere in America is Birmingham , Alabama in early 1963.

When  the 1st Amendment is being attacked, whether you are pro-life or pro-choice simply doesn’t matter.  The police should not be arresting people for verbally attacking state senators in front of them instead of on the internet.  Nor should they be forcibly arresting elderly women for sitting in a senate gallery (video).

Without free speech, there can be no true democracy.  The State Police at the Texas Legislature should be standing up to real democracy, not the half and half democracy the Republicans seem to want.
